Molecular Nanotechnology

Posted in Uncategorized by admin on the January 27th, 2008

Molecular Nanotechnology deals with creating functional mechanical systems at the molecular level. These mechanical systems would have to be assembled atom by atom. In other words, molecular nanotechnology is the nanotechnology using “molecular manufacturing”. Molecular Nanotechnology is commonly abbreviated as “MNT”.

MNT involves the combination of principles of Chemistry, other nanotechnologies, molecular machinery of living systems and the principles used in modern macro factories.

Some analysts believe that molecular nanotechnology can pose serious risks in the future. They believe that MNT can be used to make cheaper and more dangerous weapons. MNT would also make it possible to create weapons that can self replicate on their own.

In present, MNT is still in the infancy stage. Development is hampered by technical issues. Researchers are trying to find out answers to these problems. Only the future will decide where molecular nanotechnology will move.
